The Mercedes Petronas team as we know it today in Formula 1 started in 2010 after Daimler AG bought the 2009 World Constructors’ and Drivers’ Champion Brawn GP.
Of course, Mercedes had been in Formula 1 as a constructor in the 1950s, winning two World Drivers’ Championships with Juan Manuel Fangio in 1954 and 1955, and had also been a successful engine manufacturer since the 1990s, especially with McLaren, winning three WDCs in that span.
Since 2014, Mercedes Petronas has won seven World Constructors’ and Drivers’ Championships, which is an unprecedented streak in Formula 1 history. With Lewis Hamilton (six) and Nico Rosberg, Mercedes has won every Drivers’ Championship since 2014.
