This is an exact replica of the helmet worn by F1 Grand Prix-winner Gunnar Nilsson in the 1976 season, his first in F1.

The helmet is mainly white  but includes a yellow/blue section going from the front to the back. The colors were a homage to Nilsson’s home country, Sweden. Moreover, the sides include his last name.

In 1976, Nilsson went to Formula 1 with Lotus after winning the 1975 British Formula Three. He achieved two third places that year and went on to win a race the following season, the 1977 Belgian GP.

Sadly, Nilsson retired from Formula 1 due to a testicular cancer diagnosis which took his life on October 20th, 1978.

The English driver’s typical helmet design consisted of a black helmet with his name written in bold letters on both sides of the safety device. Another key feature in Hunt’s original livery is the three stripes positioned on the sides and the back, colored in red, blue and yellow, the colors of his school: the Wellington College.
